“Silent Fights” is a reflection of the unspoken battles that take place within each of us. All the conflicts that are rarely visible on the surface but deeply shape who we are. The painting uses a series of sharp, vertical green forms resembling candlesticks, standing tall against a turbulent red background. To me, these forms symbolise moments of stress and endurance between inner strength and vulnerability. The red background conveys intensity, passion, and at times, pain, while the green elements act as pillars of endurance, suggesting that even in the middle of chaos, there is growth and survival.
The creative process began with a desire to capture inner struggle without resorting to figurative or literal imagery. Instead, I leaned into abstraction, letting the shapes and colours express the emotional states. I layered deep reds with subtle gradients, creating a base that feels raw and unsettled. Onto this foundation, I applied bold, geometric green strokes, deliberately rigid and upright, to contrast with the emotional within. The splatters of white across the piece were not accidental but intentional bursts, representing the uncontrollable and unpredictable ways that conflict can surface.
Texture plays an important role here. The roughness of the brushstrokes and the layered background echo the weight and complexity of unspoken battles, while the sharp, straight lines of the green forms cut through with clarity, representing moments of decision. Together, these elements create a rhythm, much like the battle of thought and feeling when one is caught in internal conflict. The interplay of order and chaos reflects the paradox of strength: it is forged not in peace, but in struggle.
When viewers engage with “Silent Fights,” I hope they feel a recognition of their own hidden battles and perhaps find their own strength to try once again. The piece is not meant to dwell in despair, but to honour the resilience that emerges from silence. It serves as both a mirror and a reminder that though these fights are invisible, they shape us, and in acknowledging them, we can find both beauty and strength. The purpose of this artwork is an invitation to pause, to reflect, and to embrace the quiet victories that come from enduring what others may never see.
