“Trouble Delight” is an artwork that captures the inner struggle of choosing between certainty and doubt. Most of the time in our lives, we come across so many choices, and yet we don’t know which one is the best. In such a doubtful moment, we become overwhelmed with our thoughts and troubles that come along the way.

The layered, almost calligraphic strokes in vivid green and blue represent the mind’s restless dialogue with itself. Meanwhile, the uneven purple textures show interference in our lives, such as obstacles, confusion, and mixed thoughts. The central strip, dark and dotted with dots of red and blue, is like a starry night sky with hidden messages. It embodies the mystery of the “trouble” itself: elusive, chaotic, yet strangely enchanting. The repeated shifts between rough, aggressive marks and softer, more fluid gestures mimic the rhythm of doubt; unsettling yet also full of possibility.

Colours always play an important role in my artwork:

  • Green conveys energy, temptation, and growth, but also unease.

  • Blue reflects inner peace and the calm voice that still dares to wonder.

  • Purple and red splatters show tension, urgency, and raw emotion in the composition.

Through these contrasts, the work visualises the puzzle of choice: how what troubles us can simultaneously delight us with its mystery. I want viewers to feel intrigued, a little unsettled, but also energised by the recognition that doubt itself can be a solid ground for discovery. The piece’s purpose is not to give an answer, but to reflect the beauty in uncertainty and the courage it takes to embrace it.
