Hope Keeper

“Hope Keeper” is about holding to the hope during a moment of doubt that clouds one’s mind. The circular forms in golden-orange represent guardians of hope, like rings of fire that refuse to be extinguished. They symbolise continuity, cycles, and the eternal return of light even after the darkest night. Behind them, the deep, restless purples carry the weight of uncertainty and struggle, but also the richness of possibility hidden within adversity. I wanted this contrast to mirror the human experience: how we keep holding on to the hope despite any circumstances.

The central band of colourful, interlocked blocks became the heartbeat of the piece. Each rectangle carries a different energy. The pink shows passion, blues calm our heart, purples represent harmony and orange for the strength. The overlapping black line adds layers of paths, reminding us that hope is not always strong. Instead, it’s something we build, piece by piece, in collaboration with both anxious and belief. This section is the “keeper”, which is to guide our fragmented stories and emotions.

My process was as layered as the painting itself. I began with the purple base, applied in sweeping motions to capture raw emotion and turbulence. Then came the golden circles, painted boldly but distressed intentionally, allowing the imperfections to remind us that hope is never flawless, yet it endures. The structured blocks were the last to emerge, carefully considered, almost like stitching patches into a quilt. The final strokes of fine red and black lines were my way of threading the whole narrative together.

When collectors stand before “Hope Keeper”, I want them to look within themself and to have faith that even in tangled moments of uncertainty, there are forces of light to keep the hope alive. I hope this artwork serves as a reminder that hope, even though it is fragile, can also be strong. My wish is that it becomes a companion for anyone who needs encouragement, whispering that within chaos, there is always a place where hope waits to be held.
